Cape Fear Habitat has an opening for a team member to manage its fundraising events including soliciting sponsorships and facilitating the planning process to support the fundraising team. Attention to detail, curiosity, and a drive for accuracy are some of the qualities that will make you a good fit for the job.

Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Development Manger the Development Coordinator (DC) is responsible for managing and soliciting donations and sponsorships for Cape Fear Habitat events, including:
  • Golden Hammer Breakfast
  • Women Build
  • Builders Blitz
  • CEO Build
  • Turkey Trot
Other events as assigned by Development Manager, Development Director, Executive Director or other staff.
In addition, the DC will assist with donor events, board governance events, such as board meetings and orientations. The DC will thrive in a highly collaborative team environment and be adept at working with others both internally and externally to create events that are memorable, uplifting, financially successful and that highlight Habitat’s mission.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Create an annual event schedule with detailed timelines and plans for each event
  • Oversee and organize events from beginning stages to event completion and follow up
  • Work closely with the Volunteer Program Manager to recruit and schedule event volunteers
  • Work closely with the Development Manager and Donor Database Coordinator to manage and solicit event sponsorships, provide sponsor recognition, and steward sponsor relationships.
  • Work with Graphic Designer and Communications Coordinator to:
    • promote all events, recruit participants, and maximize media coverage for the event and its sponsors.
    • feature posts to promote and highlight events, newsletters and other promotional opportunities.
    • develop theme, logo, and feel of each event and how it will be represented in printed graphics, advertising, and signage.
  • Establish relationships in the community with vendors, individuals, and organizations that may play a role in supporting or implementing events or in supporting the overall mission of Cape Fear Habitat
  • Work closely with other development staff to communicate information about events with the public, donors, volunteers, and stakeholders.
  • Research and present opportunities for event locations, set up, tear down and logistics of all events.
  • Develop opportunities to share information about Habitat’s mission at all events and to foster relationships with event participants that could lead to future involvement, including volunteering, advocacy, or financial support.
  • Work within an event budget (provided by Director) and provide financial reports for each fundraiser with input from the Finance Department.
  • Document processes and planning for major fundraisers and update after each event
  • Assess each event’s overall success and report findings
  • Communicate event information and coordinate with staff throughout the affiliate
  • Document and update position processes on an ongoing basis
  • Provide support for fundraising programs and projects, as requested
  • Ability to work occasional nights, holidays (Thanksgiving Day), and weekends

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience; minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience
  • Utilize strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills to communicate with and inspire a diverse group of volunteers, staff, clients, vendors, board members, and donors
  • As a team player, collaborate among the development team, throughout the organization, and with external groups
  • Ability to prioritize, manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines and adapt to changing schedules and needs of stakeholders
  • Experience with Microsoft Office required; ability to create and utilize spreadsheets; database management software experience optional
  • Meet all deadlines agreed upon with the DM 
  • Ability to perform physical duties: stand, walk, sit, lift up to 20 pounds
  • Satisfactory results on sex offender/criminal background screen and pre-employment drug screen
